I know this may not be the actual purpose of the anime, but here is what it is to me. It's about a kind of humans, Diclonius,
born with horns and weird invisible arms called vectors. These people can control the arms, and are mostly kept in high secured
(yeah right) facilities. Lucy, one of these creatures, escaped. On her way out, a sniper, who was supposed to get a one shot
kill, missed his target and simply knocked Lucy unconsience.
The sniper shot left her with a split personality. She is first discovered by two cousins on the beach, in the nude, and completely
confused. They slightly dress her and take her home. The only thing she knows and says is "Nyu", which is the name
they give her. As Nyu, she is very hyperactive, happy about everything, and easily confused. But above everything, Kawaii!
This is Lucy. When she is herself, she likes killing. I don't know if that is true or not, but she sure seems like it. She
was (I think) created to destroy humans. Normal humans. She usually changes back from Nyu to Lucy when she hits her head.
And as stubborn as Nyu is, that happens quite frequently. I love her hat, though. ^_^
This is Nana (Number 7). She is also a Diclonius. She was sent out to find Lucy, and bring her back to the facility thing.
(Cause, you know, she got away once and killed most of the staff, so we get her back so she can what, do it again? Smart.)
Anime people are so silly. Nana, unlike Lucy, does not have such an evil personality. She's quite happy, and seems to have
a friendly approach to Lucy...or did, before Lucy ripped off her arms and legs. Don't worry, she comes back with fake ones.
DICLONIUS:
Mutated Homo sapiens; physically similar, differing only in a pair of horns which extrude from the cranium and the presence
of vectors, invisible arms that have the power to destroy anything they come in contact with. Mutated subjects have exhibited
unusually precise control over these vectors, range and number of vectors differs in each subject.
